M5.1 Earthquake: Offshore Japan

Early this morning at 11:53hrs UTC (6:53 am) a magnitude 5.1 occurred offshore Japan.  The event, with a focal depth of 41.2kms, is located South of yesterday’s large M5.6 Sakhalin Island earthquake.  As noted before, earthquakes are not un-common for the region located near the Kuril Islands and Kuril Trench.  No damages reported as of this report.
